Is there any truth to claims made by AOR (Advanced Orthomolecular Products of Canada) that any vitamin E supplement should contain far more of the gamma fraction than the alpha fraction? They claim that excessive d-alpha will drown out the gamma entirely otherwise. Recent studies show that gamma-tocopherol is more valuable than they have been stating for the past 40 years. It is now understood that a MIXED TOCOPHEROLS COMPLEX with high gamma and high alpha actually help each other work more synergistically and provide higher benefit. There is an abstract about this here: http://www.cababstractsplus.org/abstracts/Abstract.aspx?AcNo=20053224348. Our founder, Roy Erickson, knew this when he developed UNIQUE E® MIXED TOCOPHEROLS COMPLEX almost 50 YEARS AGO! That is why our products are recognized as the STANDARD IN VITAMIN E by thousands of doctors and patients who understand that most testing done over the past several decades has been done using inferior forms of vitamin E, and that the negative press about vitamin E is unmerited. The discussion about alpha drowning out gamma may be speaking to TOCOTRIENOLS as part of a TOCOPHEROL mix. Alpha-tocopherol WILL inhibit the assimilation of TOCOTRIENOLS in the body. That is why we recommend taking your full dose of UNIQUE E® MIXED TOCOPHEROLS (which is high-gamma) in the morning with your meal, and your full dose of UNIQUE E® TOCOTRIENOLS in the evening with your meal. To benefit the most from your supplement ingestion it is best to take them at least hours apart – but we suggest doing it with meals. Read about dosage recommendations here: Recommended Dosage
